The Knoxville City Council approved vacation of the Sunset Ridge Subdivision at their meeting Tuesday night.
This subdivision was approved and recorded with the county in 2004 and the property has remained undeveloped ever since. Once the subdivision is vacated, buyers Brian and Lisa McNeill intend to maintain the property as a large, single parcel and plan to build a single-family home and accessory buildings. The majority of the property will remain in agricultural use as it is today. Current owner JNB Iceberg Development Group, Inc. has consented to vacating the plat. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says she is glad someone will be able to use that land.
“The plans never evolved. It was never developed unfortunately and so we had a potential buyer that was looking to purchase the property that wanted to vacate that subdivision and use it for their own parcel. It’s about 53 acres. They will be using it for a single-family dwelling and mainly agriculture which it’s zones today. It’s unfortunate that it was never fully subdivided or developed out like the initial intentions about 20 years ago but we are happy to see that there will be some work done on the property and someone to take advantage of that.”
