Newton High School’s new Principal says a high percentage of Newton students are taking advantage of the courses offered at Newton High School that carry college credits at Des Moines Area Community College. The courses are taught by High School instructors certified by DMACC. Michael Dale took over as Newton High School Principal July 1st,  following the retirement of 20 year Principal Bill Peters. Dale calls the DMACC course offerings an important tool in preparing Newton graduates for their future.

“All the factors here that Newton has to offer the kids is really kind of a dream tool box that you could have when you work with them to prepare for life after high school”

There are about 20 course offerings for Newton students that have college credits at DMACC. They include accounting, calculus, French, writing, painting, and pottery. The cost of the courses is covered by the high school at no charge to the students, through a partnership with the school district and DMACC.
