Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand visited Knoxville on Wednesday as part of his 100 Town Hall Tour.

Sand spoke to local residents about updates within his office, and a brief recap of the last year for him. Sand talked about some important issues he has been working on as Auditor including only requiring a two year degree for certain jobs, issues regarding property taxes, his attempt to try and protect competition in the fertilizer industry, and issues with the school vouchers program. Sand also talked about ways his office has been restricted recently due to legislation.

Sand also highlighted his PIE program which stands for Public Innovations and Efficences, and he talked about four agencies in Marion County who participate in this program.

“Our PIE Program stands for public innovations and efficiencies. The purpose of the program is to help local entities save money and your local participating entities here in Marion County are the Knoxville Community School District, the City of Melcher-Dallas, the Marion County Roads Department, and the City of Harvey. What we’re doing here is just putting in front of your local leaders lots of ways they can do to save money. The more they do, the more efficient you are going to get your services from your government.”

Sand will be in Newton on Monday and Indianola on October 21st. Hear more from Sand on an upcoming Let’s Talk Knoxville.
