State Auditor Rob Sand will be in Newton Monday, September 9th as part of his 100 Town Hall Tour across Iowa’s 99 counties. Members of the public are encouraged to attend his Noon to 1 p.m. visit. The town hall session will be the Comer Park Gazebo at the corner of East 2nd Street and 1st Avenue. It’s the State Auditor’s only town hall meeting that day. The following day Tuesday, September 10th, Sand is scheduled to speak in 7 counties; Davis, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Van Buren, and Wapello. On Wednesday of this week Sand’s Office announced a state audit revealed the former Manager of the University of Iowa’s Department of Physics and Astronomy Machine Shop had diverted over 4 years $943,643.97 into his personal and business accounts. Sand says that money was obtained through jobs completed by university staff and equipment, and should have been deposited into University of Iowa accounts
