There will be special games, food, and music in downtown Newton late this afternoon as the City hosts the last stop for RVTV before tomorrow’s Iowa-Iowa State Football game in Iowa City. Newton Main Street Executive Director Erin Yeager was part of about half a dozen committee members who organized the RVTV visit. She says an application for Newton to be one of this year’s stops was submitted before the end of March, and the selection was made in April. Activities downtown begin at 4 p.m. with a pep assembly for tonight’s home high school football game, which begins at 7 p.m.. It can be heard live at www.kniakrls.com KRLS3 with pre-game coverage starting at 6:30 p.m.. Yeager says various games on the square will start at 4:30 p.m. with a music concert to follow.
“We have hot wings, tug of war, and tire lifting contests. Different games will be playing. At 5:30 p.m. Damon Dotson will take the stage for a concert. We’ll have food trucks. Just a good tailgating party downtown.”
According to Yeager, Newton’s downtown area will be blocked off to traffic for set up starting at 1 p.m.. She encourages people to show up downtown around 3:30 so there is a good crowd for WHO TV 13’s first live broadcast at 4 p.m.. Activities on Newton’s square will wrap up between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m..
