Competing in their only meet in the Tulip City until the State Qualifier in mid-October, the Class 2A #16 ranked Pella Christian girls cross country team took fifth and the #10 ranked boys finished sixth at the Pella Dutch Invitational on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Eagle girls was junior Bailey Vos, who finished in 11th place with a time of 20:25.8. Vos’ time was a minute and 25 seconds faster than the time she posted at the same meet on the Central College course as a sophomore. Freshman Hayley Rens posted a time of 21:27.8 to take 18th place, while junior Julia Schmalcs took 28th (22:20.7) and sophomore Greta Vos finished 32nd (22:36.4). Junior Maisy Meinders (24:08.2) and sophomores Nora Lamb (24:16.5) and Sophia Slagter (24:23.6) completed the Eagles scoring on the day, taking 45th through 47th in the meet.
Senior Deacon Branderhorst led the Pella Christian boys on Saturday, taking 30th place with a time of 18:10.5. Sophomores Griffin Stoltz (18:24.7) and Will Vanden Bosch (18:26.0), junior Logan Gallaher (18:26.3), and freshman Kaeden Bouma (18:32.2) weren’t far behind Deacon in 34th through 37th place. Freshman Joel Pogany (18:34.8) and junior Paxton Bouma (19:02.7) rounded out the Eagle boys’ varsity lineup, taking 40th and 43rd respectively.
