The Indianola School Board voted to suspend all further discussion related to the district nickname at their meeting Monday, setting the board policy of no changes for the foreseeable future.
The topic, which saw hours of public comment both for and against the changing of the nickname “Indians” and the “dreamcatcher” logo, was put on the agenda at the request of board member Eric Christensen. At the conclusion of the public comment, Christensen made a motion to change the name and logo of the district, which failed due to no second in favor of the motion by any other board member.
After the failed motion, board member Ryan Werling made the motion to suspend or table all further discussion related to the nickname until required by the Governor or the State of Iowa. The motion passed in a 6-1 vote, with Christensen voting against.
