Local law enforcement agencies have released statements regarding a threat relating to Marion County High School in Kentucky.

According to a release by the Knoxville Police Department, at 8:10 am this morning the Knoxville Police Department was made aware of a threat to “Marion County High School” via social media. Marion County High school does not exist in Marion County, Iowa. It was discovered by the Knoxville Police Department that threats were made to Marion County High School in Lebanon, KY within the last two days.

Lebanon (KY) Police Department was contacted and it was learned that the photos and messages regarding the threats made to Marion County High School; the same ones received by the Knoxville Police Department, are the same threats investigated by the Lebanon Police Department in Kentucky.

Knoxville Police Department says they will continue to investigate the incident, but they do not believe there is any credible threat of violence against any school in the Knoxville Community School District.

A release by the Pella Police Department says:

The Pella Police Department, in conjunction with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Knoxville Police Department, was made aware of a threat to “Marion County High School” via social media. Marion County High School does not exist in Marion County, Iowa. It was discovered the threats were made to Marion County High School in Lebanon, Kentucky, within the last two days. The Lebanon, Kentucky Police Department confirmed that the threat and social media posts regarding the threat were the same that they are currently investigating and have filed charges in Kentucky on a juvenile for terrorist threats. After a careful review of our local investigative and intelligence resources, we do not believe there is a credible threat to Marion County, Iowa, or any Pella Schools. The safety of students is of the utmost importance to the Pella Police Department, and we thank those who came forward quickly with the information. This is a reminder to talk to your kids about making threats vi social media and to bring any threats to the attention of law enforcement.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Stated:

This morning, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a possible threat involving a high school in Marion County. After coordination with other law enforcement in Marion County, we’ve been informed that the matter is currently under investigation in Marion County, Kentucky NOT Marion County, Iowa.
We greatly appreciate the quick response from the parents who notified us, enabling a prompt investigation. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all.
