Following a series of ranked wins and a strong start to the non-conference portion of the schedule, the #9 in 4A Pella volleyball team opens league competition with a big test at home against #7 ranked Dallas Center-Grimes.

Pella’s played 15 matches and has won 13 of them, with the only losses coming to No. 1 in 3A Mount Vernon and top-ranked in Class 2A Denver in tournament settings — and the Dutch toppled two more ranked foes in 4A over the weekend in Glenwood, including the No. 6 hosting Rams and No. 2 Bishop Heelan.

The Dutch will try to slow down the 9-1 Mustangs, who defeated Newton last week before a weekend tournament bye. DCG features a strong trio of hitters, including seniors Landry Glasgow (68 kills) and Mailya Carlson (53 kills), and sophomore Maggie Leifker (61).

Pella has not solved the Mustangs since their regular season matchup in 2022, with DCG narrowly owning the all-time series with 11 wins to ten for the green and white.

Head Coach Joel Allman is hopeful to kick off a successful league slate of games in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

“Dallas Center-Grimes is very good, they are a top eight ranked team, and so we’re really excited because pressure is a privilege, and it’s going to be a high-pressure event, as far as both teams are very good, it’s our home opener for conference, and it’s homecoming week,” he says.

First serve for the Pella volleyball team hosting DCG is scheduled for 7:15 this evening.
