September is Emergency Preparedness Month, a month to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time.
Warren County Emergency Management Coordinator Miranda Chadwick tells KNIA News parents and families should have a talk with their kids and make a plan in the event of an emergency, and in the case of a severe weather emergency or other disaster, have enough supplies in case the power goes out.
“It could be, does your family have an evacuation plan, do you have enough food and water in the event of a storm coming through? You want to be prepared for the worst case scenario, but not to the extreme. The first 72 hours is on you, and what they mean by that is you should be prepared to support yourself for 72 hours in the event of a storm or disaster before help arrives.”
