The Pella Christian volleyball team grabbed their first Little Hawkeye Conference win of the season Tuesday night, earning a hard fought 3-0 road sweep over Newton.
All three sets in the match between the Eagles and Cardinals were tightly contested, with the tone of the match being set early. Pella Christian escaped the first set with a 26-24 victory, before nabbing a 25-22 win in the second set. In the third set, the Eagles put the finishing touches on their fourth consecutive victory in straight sets, downing Newton 25-21. Pella Christian was propelled offensively in the win by Brynn Runner’s 19 assists and Chloe Huisman’s 14 kills. The Eagles posted 16 aces in the three sets, with Faith Kacmarynski having six and Huisman recording five. The Cardinals’ offense was led by Isabelle Rawlins’ 21 assists and Delaney Woollums’ nine kills.
Pella Christian improved to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the win, while Newton fell to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Eagles return to action on Thursday to host Woodward-Granger at 7 pm, while Newton is off until traveling to Norwalk next Tuesday.
