The 2024 Knoxville Cancer Relay kickoff party is scheduled for tonight.

The event from 5:00-7:00 pm at Randy Wilson Track is a way to kick off one of the largest annual cancer fundraisers in the state. The team, which has raised nearly $250,000 over the past 10 years to fight cancer, is bringing the Backwoods Wood-Fired Pizza truck in for the party. Music will be provided by KNIA/KRLS’s Lil’ Big Red Radio. Knoxville’s first responders will be present for a brief ceremony just before 7:00 pm, then join the first running loop around Knoxville. Runners and walkers will leave every hour on the hour from 7:00 tonight through 5:00 tomorrow evening. Members of the public are encouraged to join for five, three, or one-mile loops marked around town. Jayme Braida with the Knoxville Cancer Relay encourages everyone to come out to the kickoff party.

“Please come join us. It’s just a time to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer, and those who have won their battle. We will have food trucks, we will have the big red radio there. Just come join us. It’s a really neat thing. We have the fire and police department that lead our first mile. It is an event that just brings the whole community together and we would love to see more and more people there.”
