The labor to install an uninterruptible power supply to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, including jail and dispatch, is costing the County $8,516. That was the low bid from Van Maanen Electric of Newton to install the $47,600 unit, according to Jasper County Maintenance Director Adam Sparks. He says this will keep the power on when the emergency generator has to be used.

“It makes it so we never lose phone calls, dispatch, anything like that. It feeds in between the transition from going from regular power to generator power.”

The County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Van Maanen Electric’s quote, which was less than $400 below two other bids. The County Supervisors had previously purchased the uninterruptible power supply unit. Van Maanen Electric’s price includes disposal of the old machine, which Sparks says is quite expensive.
