The Knoxville City Council approved a site plan for a Kwik Star Convenience Store at their meeting Monday night.
The store that will break ground in 2025 will have the retail store, twenty spots for fueling, and a car wash. The land it will be built on is currently owned by the Knoxville Community School District, but the purchase for that land is expected to be closed on at the end of September. Also at the meeting the council heard a mayoral reading of a National Constitution Week proclamation, received an update from the Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund and approved a resolution for local match for the fund, and there was then a lengthy discussion and an approval of an amended development agreement for Origin Homes LLC in the Veterans District.
The meeting concluded with the council taking no action on the 2024 downtown signage grant program, then approving repairs to Robinson Street and there was an update given regarding the transition process of the Youngs Park ball field. The City Economic Development Director Glenn Lyons discussed the desire to use the current site for commercial property, but to add new ballfields in the future. Lyons did state that this process is still roughly two years out.
