One of the many non-profit organizations providing free services to those in need in Jasper County is Lucy’s Pet Pantry in Newton. The organization has been around since December 2019. It’s the result of the concern Brittney Eckert’s 9-year-old daughter Lucy had for pets after the Jasper County Rescue League closed, and there were no longer pet pantry services available for needy pet owners.

“She was way concerned about everybody’s pets and wanted to do something. So Lucy’s Pet Pantry began. It was an interesting Thanksgiving conversation to have with her at 9 years old. Pet Pantry came up and kind of exploded. “

Lucy’s Pet Pantry provides Jasper County pet owners up to five months of food and pet supplies in times of hardship. Once a month, they offer low-cost spay and neutering for cats. The organization also sells its own merchandise, with all proceeds going back into their operations. For more information, Eckert says check the Lucy’s Pet Pantry Facebook page or website www.lucyspetpantry.org.
