The Newton Volleyball team traveled to Norwalk to take on Class 4A’s #9 team. Norwalk won in 3 sets (25-6, 25-14, 25-16). The Cardinals are now 5-6, with matches coming up this Saturday at North Mahaska High School. PCM, Lynnville-Sully, Pella Christian, and HLV are the other teams also scheduled to be there. 

The Newton Girls and Boys Cross Country teams ran at the Oskaloosa Cross Country meet in Oskaloosa last night against ten other schools. The Cardinal boys placed 4th behind Carlisle, Oskaloosa, and Knoxville. Senior Javin Dolan was just under 17:50 for 6th place while Junior Lance Zaabel was 9th with a time slightly above 18:00. The Newton Girls placed 8th. Cardinal coach Rachelle Tipton says Freshman Audrey Muckler finished 8th individually as well, with a time just under 22 minutes.. Coach Tipton also noted it was hot and the team was short handed but still gave a great effort. Up next for the Cardinal Girls and Boys Cross Country teams is a home meet at Maytag Park Tuesday, September 24th. Ten other girls teams and eight other boys teams are scheduled to compete.
