Augustana Tops Central in Soccer Match
Despite dominating the time of possession, the Central College men’s soccer team fell to Augustana College (Ill.) 4-1 on Wednesday.
Central (2-3-1) possessed the ball for 67% of the game, and was able to get 13 shots, with four being on goal. Augustana was able to score two goals in a ten-minute span in the first half, before adding on in the second half with a pair of goals on turnovers by Dutch defenders. Central got their goal from defender Alejo Marcon in the 75th minute, when he took advantage of a corner kick from Coleman Manuel.
The Dutch men’s soccer team returns to the pitch at 4 pm on Saturday to host Greenville (Ill.) on the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field.
Central Women’s Tennis Team Battles with Truman State
Upperclassmen led the Central College women’s tennis team in a battle against a Division II opponent Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough in a 5-2 loss to Truman State.
The Dutch (4-3) got a pair of singles match wins from Jayden Kissack and Abbie Den Adel, with Kissack getting the first win at #4 singles 6-2, 6-1. Den Adel nabbed the other Central victory at #5 singles 6-4, 6-1. The Dutch were close to winning two other singles matches, but lost in third set tiebreakers. Central was swept in the three doubles matches to lose the overall doubles point to Truman State.
The Dutch will now send individuals to the ITA Division III Midwest Regional in Saint Peter, Minnesota Friday and Saturday.
