Newton’s 2024 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned today and the annual Homecoming parade will be held this evening. The King and Queen coronation will occur during a pep assembly in the High School’s upper gym. The King candidates are Ezra Bartell, Cade Bauer, Jose Benitez, Landon Bozarth, Zane Munger, Peyton Rozendaal, Damien Smith, and Derek Wermager. The Queen candidates are Paige Benson, MeLayna Budinich, Alex Garvis, Macy Lampe, Ella Machin, Peyton Ray, Alex Riney, and Delaney Woollums. This year’s Homecoming theme at Newton High School is “At Last Cardinals See the Light (Tangled)”. The homecoming parade from Newton High School to downtown begins at 6 p.m. followed by a short pep rally. The traditional parade route has been altered due to street construction downtown. Upon leaving Newton High School, the parade will go one block west on South 8th Avenue East and then north on East 3rd Street South. At South 2nd Avenue East, the route heads west for three blocks before turning north on West 2nd Street South to go past the west side of the square. The parade will end on the northside of the square and north of the County Courthouse. The homecoming football game against Marshalltown will kick off at 7:30 next tomorrow night and can be heard live on kniakrls.com KRLS3. Newton’s 2024-2025 Homecoming Dance will be Saturday night in Newton High School’s lower gym.
