The Knoxville City Council approved a local match for the Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund at their meeting Monday night.
There was a presentation and update given at the meeting from Andrew Collings with Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance to talk about the Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund and how it benefits the areas it serves. Boone, Jasper, Marion, and Warren Counties have created a Local Housing Trust Fund, whose general mission and purpose is to address the affordable housing needs within the region through coordination and long-term planning. Knoxville just has to provide a local match for this in case no applications for projects are received. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says Habitat for Humanity has greatly benefited from these funds.
“One of the large projects that Marion County has seen throughout this process with the Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund has been the critical home repair program which has been funded through the Habitat for Humanity. It’s really great. He said over the last five years it’s been about $2.5 Million that they’ve given back to those counties in housing projects. It was a really good update and Knoxville is happy to provide that local match to make those projects happen.”
The local match for this year was $141,425.
