Central Women’s Soccer Team Extends Winning Streak to Four Games

Despite playing back-to-back days, the Central College women’s soccer team shut out their fifth opponent this season with a 3-0 win over Illinois College on Sunday.

The Dutch outshot the Lady Blues 17-8, with seven shots on goal. Central opened the scoring in the 12th minute, when defender Nicole Sinclair scored her first goal of the season. Abby Frey recorded the assist, moving her into the top five in career assists with 16. Rachel Mendlik continued the scoring for the Dutch when she scored her first career goal in the 36th minute off an assist from Josie Newton. Midfielder Kylie Bloomstrom also scored her first career goal when she scored in the 58th minute. Zoey Sizemore collected two saves and her third clean sheet on the season.

The Dutch play their final non conference game when they go to play the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Wednesday at 5 pm.

Central Snares Buena Vista Women’s Golf Tourney Title

Enduring cooler temperatures and increased winds that sent scores higher, the Central College women’s golf team claimed the title at the 11-team Buena Vista Invitational on Sunday.

The Dutch dipped to as low as third place after the first few holes but closed at 325-334–659 at the par-72 Buena Vista University Golf Course at Lake Creek. Allie Pfantz carded an even-par 36 on her final nine holes Sunday to help rally the Dutch and shot 82-80–162 to place fourth individually. Lydia Grond tied for fifth at 79-84–163. Jaden Smith had three birdies Sunday and shot 81-86–167 to tie for 13th, while Parker Stout shot 83-84–167 and Amber Timmer had an 85-92–177. Central’s B team moved up a spot to finish sixth at 348-350–698. Mickey Martens was low for the team with 89-82-171.

Central is off until the 54-hole American Rivers Conference meet, which returns to the par-72 Ames Country Club October 5th-7th.
