The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Knoxville Public Library, will hold a ribbon cutting for Dixie’s Garden, a new park located next to the library.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, October 4th at 4:30 p.m., immediately following the Knoxville Homecoming Parade. The event will celebrate the official opening of Dixie’s Garden, a new outdoor space for the community to enjoy. The park is named in honor of Knoxville native and designer of the Iowa flag, Dixie Gebhardt, and will serve as a green area for visitors and residents alike. Knoxville Public Library Director Roslin Thompson says this new park will be a great memorial for Gebhardt.
“Knoxville is the birthplace of the Iowa flag and Dixie Gebhardt is known as the designer of the flag. We’ve talked to the family and we know that Dixie really loved her gardens because that was the site of the house where she lived. This is just a memorial for Dixie to remember her by. We will have a rock to indicate the name of the garden. This is just a memorial to her.”
The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and the Knoxville Public Library invite all members of the community to join in the festivities, explore the new park, and celebrate the new addition to Knoxville’s downtown.
