The Knoxville School Board heard a Ken Locke Stadium purchase proposal from the Knoxville Alumni Association at their meeting Monday night and set a public hearing.

The Save our Stadium (SOS) committee is requesting to purchase the property from the school district for $5,000. Pennie Sommar spoke at the meeting on behalf of the SOS committee saying it has been hard for her group to fundraise for improvements and renovations to the old football stadium without ownership of the property and she wants to turn it into something that will benefit the community. The school board then approved a public hearing regarding the sale of the property to be held on October 14th, when action will be formally considered for the request.

Also at the meeting, the board approved two fundraising requests, an early dismissal for the homecoming parade, and School Business Manager Craig Mobley gave a presentation showing the annual financial report and financial trendline. The meeting started with a tour open to the public of West Elementary and ended with a tour of the middle school and high school. Today, the school district will hold a ribbon cutting for the new playground equipment at West.
