Newton Community Theatre Board Member Scott Schaeffer encourages anyone interested in being in a play to audition for upcoming productions. Schaeffer says he was hooked on performing after he auditioned in 2010, and landed the role of President Roosevelt in the musical “Annie.” He calls it a “life changing experience” that occurred after conquering his fear of not being able to remember his lines.

“That is exactly the reason why I was a little hesitant in 2010. I thought there is no way I am going to be able to remember lines like that. It’s like memorizing a book. How do you do that? It just works! It happens. So I would encourage anybody to give it a shot.”

Schaeffer has been in many Newton Community Theatre productions over the years. He’s currently playing the lead in their production of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express.” The play opened this past weekend and continues with more performances this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Check the Newton Community Theatre website or box office in the Newton YMCA for showtimes and ticket information. Schaeffer talks more about his experiences with the Newton Community Theatre on today’s Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Let’s Talk Newton.
