Newton High School Senior Anna DeVries was recognized at Monday night’s Newton School Board meeting for being a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist. She was introduced by Newton High School Principal Michael Dale.

“Anna is one of 16,000 semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. Over 1.3 million students took qualifying tests. So Anna actually made the top 1-percent of all seniors in the country. What a tremendous honor.”

DeVries thanked the school board for overseeing the school district and giving her the education that she needed to get the award.
