Indianola City Council member Steve Richardson recently earned the Certified Elected Municipal Official designation from the Iowa League of Cities. Richardson tells KNIA News in order to obtain the designation he had to participate in the Municipal Leadership Academy that assists elected leaders and city staff in putting together the city budget and running effective meetings, and he would recommend the courses to anyone who is either involved or wants to get involved in city government.

“I really think it is a good opportunity to learn. A lot of folks don’t understand budgets when they come in and how cities run their budgets, and how they are set up, and how the money is spent, and I really think that is an important piece of it. But as well as just how to get along, how to get involved with things that make your town a better community, and I really think this is a good opportunity to do that.”
