Newton Police said 41-year-old Casey Joel Brandt had just under a gram of methamphetamine in a clear baggie in his front pants pocket. The baggie was found April 4th, after Brandt was arrested for Driving with a Barred License. Newton officers had been called about Brandt’s pick-up blocking a parking lot in the 1100 block of 1st Avenue East. Brandt pleaded guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd Offense, a Class D felony. His sentence from District Court Judge Thomas Murphy includes a five-year suspended prison term, two years of probation, and a $1,025 civil penalty. Court records show Brandt has several prior felony convictions for drug possession, burglary, and forgery.
