Newton School Superintendent Tom Messenger says the announcement of charges against a student earlier this week for an alleged threat against the district highlights the importance of parents using the ParentSquare app. That’s how the district released earlier this week that charges were being filed against a student accused of making a threatening comment to a specific staff member. Messenger says the incident was promptly reported to police, and was unrelated to the recent threats made on social media that were investigated. In the ParentSquare communication, the Newton Superintendent also stressed that “threatening comments and behaviors are not acceptable and will be addressed with the highest level of priority.” He also encouraged everyone that if they see or hear anything troubling, to report it to the Newton Police Department or the Safe+Sound Iowa School Threat Reporting Tool.
