The Class 2A #11 Pella Christian volleyball team surpassed last season’s win total at the Grinnell Triangular Thursday night, defeating 2A #12 Grundy Center 2-1 and Grinnell 2-0.
The Eagles tied last year’s win total with a 25-16, 23-25, 15-13 victory over the ranked Spartans, then claimed their 18th win of the season with a 25-16, 25-22 sweep of the host Tigers. In Pella Christian’s first match, Addie Van Arendonk posted a team-high 12 kills, while Chloe Huisman dished out 25 assists. Addison Bandstra, Brynn Roozeboom, and Rachel Kacmarynski each had two blocks in the win over Grundy Center, and Faith Kacmarynski had 15 digs. Against Grinnell, Van Arendonk led the team in kills again with six, while Chloe Huisman recorded 17 assists. The Eagles defense terrorized the Tigers, recording 15 blocks in the victory. Rachel Kacmarynski led the defensive effort with five blocks, while Huisman added three and Brynn Runner, Bandstra, and Roozeboom each had two.
Pella Christian improved to 18-6 overall on the season with their wins Thursday, and will return to the court on Tuesday for a home Little Hawkeye Conference match against Norwalk.
