A dominant rushing attack did the trick for the Pella Christian football team Friday night, as they earned their first win of the season with a 57-14 victory at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Eagles ran the ball for 368 yards on 33 attempts against the Rockets, nearly matching the 373 rushing yards they had combined through the first four games of the year. Johnson Morgan spearheaded the ground game for Pella Christian, needing just eight carries to record 167 yards and four scores, with three first quarter rushing touchdowns and another in the second quarter. Cooper Spronk added 73 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown, while also scoring a 21-yard receiving touchdown. In addition to throwing the touchdown to Spronk, Brecken Ritzert added a second passing touchdown to Landon Fransman from five yards out in the fourth quarter. Freshman quarterback Trey Steinkamp capped off the scoring for the Eagles, scrambling for a one-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the game.
The Eagles improved to 1-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in district play with the win. Pella Christian now turns their attention to a big district showdown next Friday, as they welcome Sigourney-Keota to Eagle Lane.
