Members of the Newton Police Department, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and the Newton Fire Department will be in Newton’s Aurora Park tonight observing National Night Out. Newton Police Captain Chris Wing says the 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. event will be similar to what they have held in the past.

“We’ve been hosting National Night Out for several years now. We have a lot of the same things people have enjoyed doing in the past, and we are adding a few more things. There will be three Sheriff Department Deputies there with two of their Crisis Canines for kids to pet and love on. The Fire Department will be out there with their trucks, obstacle course, and Crisis Canine “Marshall”.

Members of the Newton Police Department, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and the Newton Fire Department will be introducing themselves and sharing information about safety awareness and measures. Food trucks, a bounce house with a slide, giant yard games, and a visit from the Iowa League of Heroes will also be part of the event.
