Rankin Wins For A 5th Time, Boys Finish 3rd, Girls 7th At Panther Invitational
While it was a bit breezy, it was an otherwise near perfect day for cross country as Knoxville held its annual invitational at Pine Knolls Country Club on Tuesday. The 19th ranked in class three-A boys were led over the line by Issac Rankin, who won his 5th race of the season in a time of 16:50, ten seconds ahead of runner-up. Connor Schultz was the other Panthers in the top ten as he placed 7th. As a team Knoxville finished in 3rd place. The girls were able to post a score and placed 7th overall as Halle Baker, returning from an injury that has slowed her this season placed 37th. Senior runners Ezra Schmidt and Janie Maasdam told KNIA/KRLS Sports it was good to have a home meet and not have to ride a bus for an hour.
Ezra: It was alright. It was a tough run because it was a hard course. It was great to be at home and everyone cheering us on.
Janie: My times and my runs have been a lot better than I thought it was be with the training I got in. I’m just trying to soak up the chance to spend time with my teammates, and the fun we have being around each other.
