The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls defeated Oskaloosa and Perry at the Newton YMCA last night. The Aquagirls win over Oskaloosa was 114-43, while they defeated Perry 104-52. It was a combined Junior Varsity and Varsity meet. Newton won 18 of the 22 events. Next up for the Aquagirls is a meet against Des Moines Lincoln at Lincoln High School next Thursday October 10th.
The Newton Cardinal volleyball team fell to 6-10 overall last night, losing to #5 in Class 5A Indianola in straight sets 25-10, 25-7, and 25-11. Newton Coach Heidi Woollums calls Indianola a “dominant team” in the Little Hawkeye Conference and notes playing a 5A ranked school isn’t ideal. Coach Woollums adds the team can not dwell on matches like this and must look ahead to the home tournament they have this Saturday, and the five matches they’ll play then. With the win, Indianola’s record improves to 21-3.
