
The Pella City Council had several action items they ultimately approved at Tuesday’s regular meeting. Before voting began, Mayor Don DeWaard acknowledged the recent national accreditation earned by the Pella Police Department.
The council approved a partnership with Central College for the construction of additional pickleball courts; the City of Pella will pay $300,000 to support the college’s ongoing tennis court renovation project. A public hearing was held for phase three of improvements at Kiwanis Park, which includes bids submitted for the work to begin later this month and to be completed by the middle of next summer. Caliber Concrete was awarded the contract for $221,326. City funds will cover $150,000 of that contract, with the Wonder Spelen non-profit funding the rest.
A pair of agreements were also approved for Confluence to work with the city to update its comprehensive plan for the first time since 2014 and also update the zoning and subdivision codes for $175,500, as well as to develop a master signage plan for the community for $48,000. A public hearing was set for November 5th to approve a development agreement for the Prairie Ridge Preliminary Plat in relation to phase two of the housing area.
A series of ordinances have been adopted, including tax increment financing for the Epcon Residential Urban Renewal Area and increased parking rates in the Molengracht.
