The Newton Volleyball team will host the Newton Cardinal Invitational this Saturday at Newton High School. The Cardinals are 6-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Coach Heidi Woollums says the invitational features teams they can compete with.

“We start our day with Boone. Then we play Davis County and Lynnville-Sully.  Those are all three matches we can win. We need some “W’s”. We are really thirsty for those. All three teams we can compete with and beat if we come in mentally prepared.”

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Frement and Ottumwa are the other teams that will participate. Woollums notes the Cardinals beat both of those squads at this tournament last year. Saturday’s matches begin at 8:30 a.m. in Newton High School’s upper gym.
