Newton Police filed two felony charges Wednesday against a Newton man for an alleged July sexual assault in Woodland Park. Thirty–three-year old Avery Landon Leavens is accused of causing bruising on multiple parts of a woman’s body. Newton Police say the July 14th sexual assault took place at the end of a first date, and the victim called 911 immediately after it occurred. As a result, Leavens was arrested in the Woodland Park area shortly after running from the scene. He’s charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C felony, and Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse with Bodily Injury, a Class D felony. The night of the alleged sexual assault, Leavens was charged with Interference with Offical Acts for reportedly running from officers before being taken into custody.
