The Indianola football team survived another slow start to defeat Boone on the road 21-14 Friday evening as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians only earned 25 yards of offense in the first quarter as they fell behind the Toreadors 7-0, but then got a touchdown back in the second quarter after a long drive with Jake Pontier finding the endzone from four yards out to tie the score as the teams headed into the break at 7-all. Indianola found the endzone again in the third quarter as they came out firing, with Pontier scoring again from three yards out as Indianola took their first lead at 14-7, then scored just seconds into the fourth with a 1-yard Asher Brueck run up the middle to lead 21-7.

Boone then went on an 8-minute scoring drive that cut the lead to 21-14, but Indianola recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock to win. Indians head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports they found a way to win against a much improved Boone team.

“We finally started to find some traction, we finally started to get some things going offensively and stops defensively. There is a reason you practice your onside kicks, that’s for situations at the end of the game like tonight and we were able to execute that.”

Jake Pontier had 131 yards and two scores to lead the team. Indianola improves to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in district play, and has a crucial matchup with undefeated North Polk next Friday.
