The Norwalk cross country teams, as well as the volleyball team, all competed in Waverly on Saturday.

The Norwalk harriers took part in the Dan Huston/Steve Johnson Invitational at Wartburg College. Competing in the Gray Division, the Class 4A sixth-ranked Warrior boys placed fourth out of 21 teams with a score of 176. The girls finished 14th out of 16 teams with a score of 367.

Norwalk junior Teegan Kralik, who is 19th in the 4A individual rankings, led the Warrior boys by placing 13th out of 191 runners with a five-kilometer time of 16:01. Sam Parker, Henry Groos, Corbin Oswald and Aksel Beedon all ran times between 16:38 and 16:57, finishing 33rd, 40th, 44th, and 51st, respectively. Norwalk was competing without one of their top runners in senior Tony Anania.

The Warrior girls were paced by another sub-20:00 time from freshman Olive DeRocher, who placed 24th out of 145 individuals in 19:51. Freshman Grace Wetzeler finished 78th in 21:40 and freshman Khloe Scandrett was 103rd.

Norwalk’s next meet is Thursday’s Fort Dodge Invite, held on the state meet course at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.

VOLLEYBALL

The 11th ranked in Class 4A Norwalk volleyball team won four out of six matches and placed fifth overall in Saturday’s Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament. 

The Warriors took second in the Gold Pool, going 2-1. They defeated New Hampton in three sets, prevailing 21-13, 14-21, 15-7, then swept 1A sixth-ranked Janesville 24-22, 21-12. Norwalk took the first set from 5A third-ranked Ankeny before losing 21-15, 9-21, 10-15.

The Warriors lost another three-setter to start bracket play, falling to Waverly-Shell Rock 21-19, 19-21, 16-18. They bounced back to win rematches against New Hampton (21-15, 21-15) and Janesville (21-17, 23-21).

Norwalk’s season record is now 21-13 overall going into Tuesday’s final Little Hawkeye Conference match at Dallas Center-Grimes.
