The Knoxville City Council approved an agreement for an extension of the school resource officer program Monday night.

This is a program that has been in effect in Knoxville since 2013 where a designated Knoxville police officer is in the schools and half of their salary is paid by the Knoxville Community School District. The agenda item was for amending the contract which essentially was a continuation of the contract for an additional five years. Council Member Megan Day asked for a three year agreement instead which passed in a 3-1 split vote. Also at the meeting there were proclamations read for National Fire Prevention Week and National Planners Month, a temporary limited construction easement was approved for Kwik Star, and the meeting concluded with the council approving a change order for the Street Improvement Project.
