The Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens will be showing itself off tomorrow with the facility’s second annual Fall Festival. The nonprofit’s Board of Directors will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th. Ina Heideman, who is the Board’s Vice President and co-chair of Program and Events, says the 19.5 acre site in northeast Newton has a lot to offer.

“We have all different varieties of trees, including some of the oldest that are still living in the state. We also have beautiful gardens attended by our horticulturist and volunteers. We have a butterfly garden, a pond, sculptures, and we just acquired a prairie.”

As part of tomorrow’s Fall Festival, the grounds will be filled with scarecrows that have been decorated and donated by local businesses and organizations. Most will be available for purchase after the event. There will be food trucks, a vendor fair, caricatures, and a sidewalk chalk contest.
