The Jasper County Historical Museum is getting a $2,500 grant from the Newton Hotel-Motel Tourism Grant Program. That grant program is intended to encourage the development, continuation and promotion of projects, events and other initiatives that attract visitors from outside of Newton. A high priority is given to grant applicants that host events or activities that likely cause visitors to spend the night in local hotels or motels. The Jasper County Historical Museum will use the funding for the Tree-mendous Christmas Experience it hosts during the Christmas Holiday season. The museum is decorated with over 200+ Christmas Tree displays. Proceeds from the event helps fund the museum. In the grant application, the Jasper County Historical Museum stated last year the Tree-mendous Christmas Experience attracted 1,300 visitors from 59 towns, 24 counties and 16 states.
