Two people died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 163 near Leighton Friday night. The Iowa State Patrol reports a Subaru Outback driven by 43-year-old Sy Yang of Oskaloosa was traveling eastbound near the intersection of Highland Avenue at 8:47 p.m. before rear-ending a farm implement driven by 68-year-old Gary Lisk, also of Oskaloosa. The crash caused “front compartment intrusion,” according to the report. Both Sy and 45-year-old Rachel Anne Yang died from their injuries. Kaylah Yang, 22, and Benjamin Yang, 18, also of Oskaloosa, were transported with injuries by Mahaska County Ambulance. The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office assisted, and the Pella Fire Department was initially paged for assistance but later called off. Highway 163 was closed for several hours in the eastbound lanes late Friday night.
