Recently retired Jasper County Republican Party Chairman Thad Nearmyer is running for County Supervisor. He’s running to fill the seat longtime Supervisor Denny Carpenter held before his death in December of 2022. Former County Supervisor Denny Stevenson was appointed to take Carpenter’s place until this November’s election. Nearmyer led the local Republican party for eight and a half years, but says he’s ready for a new challenge. He hopes to bring his leadership skills to the County government.
“I had an Assistant Manager tell me one time she was really jealous of me because of my skill to talk to people and listen to people, and they know I am listening to them. That’s one of the things I’ll bring to the County government. A communication skill that I think will be helpful.”
Nearmyer has a farming background and says the needs of rural residents are really important to him. He wants to keep gravel roads well maintained across the County, and make sure emergency services are always fully funded. He also supports the bond referendum on the ballot. Nearmyer says the County’s Maintenance Garage definitely needs to be replaced and the time is right to do the project. Republican County Board of Supervisor candidate Thad Nearmyer is the guest on today’s Let’s Talk Newton, and hear from the other candidates on upcoming programs.
