The Voices of Inspiration series hosted by the United Way of Jasper County continues next week with Emmy-nominated filmmaker, award-winning journalist, and professor Ty Rushing. United Way of Jasper County Executive Director Jessica Lowe-Vokes says Rushing is known for his storytelling through words and film, and his gregarious personality. He broke barriers as the first black reporter and/or editor at eight Iowa print publications across the state. He also wrote, produced, and directed an Emmy-nominated documentary film for Iowa PBS. Rushing is the co-founder and president of the Iowa Association of Black Journalists and joined the staff at the University of Iowa as a journalism professor. The free event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24th at the Newton DMACC Auditorium, and doors will open to the public at 6 p.m. The auditorium is located at 600 North 2nd Avenue West in Newton. Free will donations will be accepted to help sustain the “Voices of Inspiration” program.
