Another remarkable season of performances came to a close for the Pella Marching Dutch on Saturday. The ensemble received the school’s 50th consecutive Division I score, the highest possible at the Iowa High School Music Association State Festival. The band then closed out the Class 3A session at the Mid-Iowa Band Championships, and for the second consecutive week, outscored all other schools participating, regardless of classification (89.1), while also winning best percussion and color guard in Class 3A. This comes one week after the Marching Dutch outscored all bands at the Valleyfest showdown. Pella band students will now turn their full attention to All-State Music auditions this coming weekend and the looming jazz season. This past spring, Pella Jazz I claimed the program’s fourth consecutive Class 3A state championship and the 21st all-time in school history.
