The low bid for phase two interior work on the new clubhouse at Newton’s City Golf Course will be brought to the City Council for approval tonight. Last Monday five bids were opened. The lowest base bid and the lowest total package price were submitted by Ball Team Incorporated of Urbandale. Their base bid was $692,000, and their total package price was $765,850 with two alternates. Those alternates are a built-in bar and window shades. The bids cover the remaining interior improvements including mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, finished floors, and interior walls. The plans and specifications were prepared by design and engineering firm ISG in Des Moines. The highest base bid submitted was $793,000, while the highest total price was $853,500. Also on tonight’s Newton City Council agenda is a recap of the summer for the City’s Park and Recreation Department, that will be presented by Newton Community Development Director Erin Chambers. Tonight’s Newton City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
