Pendergrass Goes Low for Dutch Men’s Golfers in Kansas
Kayden Pendergrass matched his career low as the Central College men’s golf team opened in fourth place at the 10-team Sand Creek Station Intercollegiate Invitational on Monday. Pendergrass fired a 2-under-par 70 in the afternoon round, after carding a 73 in the morning. He’s in sixth place individually at 73-70—143. Making the team’s first appearance at the par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course, the Dutch shot 316-306—622. Blake Wynn shot 80-78—158 while Maison Brandt shot 81-78—159, Cooper Langfelt had 82-80—162 and Jackson Murphy had 91-87—178. Playing as an at-large entrant, Ethan Gordon shot 78-86—164. Tuesday’s final round completes Central’s fall season schedule.
Central’s Steffen Wins Conference Cross Country Honor
After turning in one of the fastest times in program history, Central College’s Peyton Steffen was tabbed as the American Rivers Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Steffen finished fifth in a field of 355 runners at the Augustana (Ill.) Inter-Regional meet on Saturday, finishing in a career-best 21 minutes, 26.4 seconds on the 6,000-meter course. She now ranks third on Central’s all-time list of fastest 6,000-meter runners. Overall, Central placed 12th in the 35-team field. It’s Steffen’s first runner of the week award. The Dutch are off until the American Rivers Conference Championships in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, November 2nd, where they placed second as a team in last year’s championship meet and Steffen finished 19th individually.
