The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday evening, which included a discussion regarding the trail crossing on Hillcrest Ave and its potential disruption to large farm vehicles. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News there were multiple options to consider, including changing the concrete barrier in the middle of the street or completely removing the structure, but the council elected for a wait-and-see approach to see if there will be an issue in the spring.
“It is a 12-foot wide roadway, and the farm equipment is designed to be able to roll up on a curb if they go slow, or if they want to go around they can go around. The council was looking at three options and chose to do nothing, which is a positive one because it has no costs and it supports our overall desire to connect a trail network from Des Moines through Carlisle down to Indianola, and to see us connect that through Martensdale, then through Norwalk and Cumming all the way back to Des Moines. We see a great future for our trail system.”
