Marcon Leads Central Men’s Soccer Team in Win

Alejo Marcon scored a goal while also picking up an assist in the Central College men’s soccer team’s 2-0 win over Coe College on Wednesday.

After a scoreless first half, the Dutch (7-6-2, 3-2-1 American Rivers) took advantage of a free kick in the 52nd minute, as Josh Wilson scored his second goal of the season on assists from Marcon and Joe Brown. Central added on to the lead after a penalty was awarded in the 81st minute and Marcon stepped up and converted the penalty kick for his third goal of the season. Goalkeeper Ronan Murphy collected his fourth clean sheet of the season, collecting three saves. The Dutch outshot Coe 18-9 overall and 5-4 in shots on goal.

The Dutch return to the pitch at 1 pm on Saturday, hosting Nebraska Wesleyan on the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field.

Central Women’s Soccer Team Starts Fast in Win Against Coe

The Central College women’s soccer team collected its eighth shutout of the season in a 5-0 blowout over Coe College on Wednesday.

The Dutch (9-5-2, 2-2-2 American Rivers) got off to a fast start, as Piper Eighmy scored her third goal of the season in the first minute of the game on Alli Seegers’ assist. Amber Santana added to the fast start by scoring her fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute of the match from an assist by Grace Coates. In the 43rd minute, a handball in the box led to a converted penalty kick from Abby Frey, who tallied her fifth goal of the season. Central wasn’t done scoring, adding to their lead in the 56th minute with Seegers’ third goal of the season from a Santana assist. The final score was an own goal from Coe in the 79th minute off a corner kick. Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore collected four saves.

The Dutch return to the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field Saturday to host Nebraska Wesleyan at 3:30 pm.

Central Rally Falls Short in Volleyball Defeat

The Central College volleyball team surged after a slow start Wednesday night at Nebraska Wesleyan University, but still suffered a 25-16, 26-24, 18-25, 26-24 loss.

Outside hitter Gracie Pierson led the team with 13 kills while Kaitlyn Koel had eight. Pierson added 14 digs for a double-double. Setters Avery Rexroat and Makayla Ribble also recorded double-doubles, as Rexroat had 13 assists and 14 digs, and Ribble had 19 assists and 15 digs. Libero Colleen Kenney had a team-high 29 digs on the night. Kaitlyn Mumm assisted on eight of the team’s 10 blocks. Rexroat, Ribble and Leslie Snow each chipped in two service aces in the loss.

The Dutch venture out of league play this weekend for a Saturday triangular in Jacksonville, Illinois against Lake Forest College at 2 pm and Illinois College at 4 pm.
