The Indianola City Council approved a bid for sidewalk repair for the Wonder on Buxton Project, after the installation of the sidewalk artwork inlays in addition to other factors led to the sidewalk failing. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News he appreciates the hard work put in by Hometown Pride to create the Wonder on Buxton Project, but the inlays were put into a failing sidewalk system which led to a multitude of problems.

“Inlays were put into substandard concrete, and they were put in not in the best quality, direction, and centered, and they had trip hazards. So we recognized that those needed to come out. Some of the sidewalk had already sunk below the curbline level, and it created it’s own trip hazard before the sidewalk was even touched. So to make a good investment out of a bad situation and to address the lessons learned, the council really went in and took a look at replacing the sidewalk so it is not a tripping hazard, and it improves the walkability of those going through that area.”
