Two Newton runners qualified for the class 3A State Cross Country Meet for the State Qualifier at the Pella Sports Park on Wednesday. On the girls side it was freshman Audrey Muckler, who finished 14th in a time of 20:06 and for the boys it was Cooper Lenz, who crossed the line in 11th with a time of 16:57. Muckler told KNIA/KRLS sports she feels good about seeing her times drop throughout this season.
Muckler: “I just know I can be cutting off a lot of times in my next years and get those good times. I’ve seen a lot of my times go down and I’ve got a lot tougher.”
Lenz, meanwhile, says after having a few down times this season it was great to cap his year at the State Meet.
Lenz: “It’s an amazing way to get to the end of the season. Throughout the season I was hitting some blocks and was getting down about things but I’ve seen them go down substantially and it’s gotten a lot better.”
Muckler will run in the girls race next Friday at 10:30 while Lenz will run in the boys event at 11:15 at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge.
